Richard Wayne Peck (April 10, – May 23, ) was an American novelist known for his contributions to modern young adult literature.

He was awarded the Newbery Medal in for his novel A Year Down Yonder (the sequel to A Long Way From Chicago).[3] He received the Margaret A. Edwards Award from the American Library Association in [4][a]

Peck earned a bachelor's degree in English at DePauw University in and spent his junior year abroad at the University of Exeter.[5]
